This is the biggest DX contest of the year. For you new hams, back when people subscribed to printed paper magazines, CQ magazine was THE magazine for DX and operating. Well, time marched on. Printing and mailing got $$$, CQ mag died, BUT their premier contests live on!
Don’t plan to go POTA this weekend, unless you are taking a big tower, high power amp and all the junk you need to live for 48 hours. The first 36 hours are insane. By Sunday afternoon, the contest slows down and you can work a fair number of normal DX stations.
